Under 26? Here’s how to get crazy cheap theatre tickets

January 1, 2017

Lots of theatres offer insanely brilliant cheap theatre tickets and discounts for under 26’s. You’re seriously missing a trick if you’re not making the most of them while you still can. You just need to know where to find them:

National Theatre, London – £5 tickets for every show!

Hands-down, the best scheme out there (in my opinion) for ridiculously cheap theatre tickets (to the biggest, most exciting and most interesting productions in the UK).

If you’re 16 – 25, you can get genuinely great seats to any/all of their shows for £5 and bring a friend (also needs to be 16 – 25) for just £7.50. (Older) people sitting next to you have often paid £50+ for their seat. It’s just insanely great.

To get hold of these super-cheap tickets:

  1. Sign up to their ‘Entry Pass’ membership scheme, which is free, by completing the online registration form here: https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/entry-pass
  2. They’ll send email alerts when they are putting the next season of shows onsale. Just set a reminder and be online at the right time on the right day. If you do that, it’s actually not too hard to get cheap theatre tickets through it at all – just be prepared to be a bit flexible with what day you see stuff.

Young Vic, London – 50% off all shows

One of the best theatres in London, with consistently great and innovative programming.

They offer £10 tickets to all their shows for under 26’s. You can book via the normal ticket links on their website – https://www.youngvic.org – just select the ‘concession’ rate upon checkout (and bring ID).

Barbican, London – £5, £10 and £15 tickets to their incredible stuff

The Barbican’s always been one of my absolute favourite venues – they have incredible theatre, dance and circus (often international work) which is just very special to see.

Their young people’s scheme, ‘Young Barbican’ is also one of the best.

Again, you need to sign up to be a member (which is free): https://www.barbican.org.uk/youngbarbican.

Then it’s as simple as logging in, looking at what is available on the Young Barbican page (which includes, as well as theatre and dance, £5 cinema tickets to everything from Mondays to Thursdays – so great!) and booking.

Old Vic, London – £10 tickets to the first 5 previews of all their shows

They’ve got some very high-profile shows coming up in 2017, and recently changed their discount scheme. Now they just offer everyone (including over-25’s) the chance to get £10 tickets to the first 5 previews of every production.

It’s still pretty good though, I was centre-stalls for Groundhog Day thanks to it. You just need to, again, set reminders in your calendar about when the tickets will be released because they sell-out very quickly.

Hampstead Theatre, London – £15 tickets on Mondays

Quite a hit-and-miss venue with regards to the quality of their shows, in my opinion, but some of them are really really good. On Mondays, matinees and previews, you can get £15 tickets if you’re under 26 – again just booking through their normal website – https://www.hampsteadtheatre.com and selecting the ‘under 26’ option when it’s presented to you.

More coming soon.
